Clos Erasmus in Priorat is one of Spain's leading wineries
Daphne Glorian was born in Switzerland but came to Priorat in the 1990's. Her friends René Barbier and Álvaro Palacios convinced her to buy a property there and start working with viticulture. The name Clos Erasmus comes from the dutsch philosopher Erasmus von Rotterdam, who is famous for amongst other works ‘hymn to madness’.
Daphne Glorian ended up becoming one of the pioners in Priorat. From the foundation of the winehouse in 1989 Clos Erasmus has been working with organic agriculture and from 2004 biodynamic. The winehouse produces one of the most famous wines in the world: Clos Erasmus. The quality of the wine is strictly related to the selection of grapes in the field.
The winery and its wines,
The Vineyards Areal: 7 hectares/2,8 acres
Grape variety: Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah
Soil: the soil is volcanic, foremost slate soil with quarz.
Climate: temperate and dry with Mediterranean influences
The Wines
Clos Erasmus

Clos Erasmus 2004. 100 Parker points.
Clos Erasmus 2005. 100 Parker points. 94 points in the Peñín Guide. A
Clos Erasmus 2006 (Magnum). 97 Parker points.
Clos Erasmus 2008. 99 Parker points. 94 points in the Peñín Guide.
Clos Erasmus 2009.
Laurel
Cherry colored with intense aromas, creamy and toasted. In the mouth it is strong and savoury.
Laurel 2008. 91 Parker points. 94 points in the Peñín Guide.
Laurel 2011 :
The 'Laurel' is the second wine from Clos Erasmus, it is composed of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. In 2011 there will be no ‘Clos Erasmus’ so the all fruit was put into the ‘Laurel’ bottling. The wine brings intense aromas of fresh blackberries, cherries, vanilla crème, mineral, toast, spice, licorice and hints of mint leaf. It is dense and concentrated, but kept extremely energetic by its racy core. The finish is long and fresh, with lovely underlying acidity carrying straight through. This already very generous, yet still primal and will need some additional time in bottle, but overall a fantastic job by Daphne Glorian-Solomon. (Best 2017-2028) - December, 2013 (JD)
