Marc Ripoll, a great supporter of traditional local priorat grapes, is the only one so far to produce an excellent different wine from 100% Escanya-Vella, a historical old grape which has been growing in Priorat for centuries. Exclusive wine made from the family-owned old vineyards in Gratallops, planted on llicorella soils and farmed biodynamic. Fermented partly in stainless steel with the rest in open-top wooden vat. Aged during 7 months in French oak followed by 4 months in tank before bottling. Total production: 609 bottles
From the vintage 2009 Celler Cal Batllet elaborates all of the wines under the new appellation “Vi de la Vila” from Gratallops. The legislation introduced in 2009 by the DOQ Priorat, recognizes and protects each region’s different characteristics, viniculture, climatic, soil, etc.... with the purpose of highlighting their particular characteristics.
