The 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is one of the stars of the vintage. Exhibiting a surprisingly deep purple color, it is a seductive, open-knit, precocious, sexy example with decent acidity, sumptuous fruit and delicious, mature flavors of roasted herbs, kirsch, black currants, raspberries, licorice and incense. This beauty should be one of the top wines of this less heralded vintage (which will undoubtedly have a difficult time in the marketplace coming after 2009 and 2010). (10/2012)

Tasted from two different foudres; #1: Sexy, floral-accented aromas and flavors of blueberry and candied cherry. Spicy and energetic, with good clarity and lift. #2: Deeper and darker in character, showing intense cassis and licorice character and round, velvety tannins. The final wine should be as approachable as most '11s but with more heft and dark fruit character. I also detected less wild qualities in these samples than I've seen in recent vintages at Pegau. I daresay the ultimate wine could be downright polished. (1/2013)

This shows an enticing bay leaf note, with juicy blackberry and black currant fruit up front, followed by melted licorice and a tarry edge on the finish, underscored by a roasted alder accent. Has the friendly, racy fruit of the vintage, with some distinct character to boot. Best from 2014 through 2025 (10/2013)

Unusually dark crimson. Coconut oak hints on the nose. Very rich and supple for a 2011 Châteauneuf. Lots of fine and glossy pleasure here in a wine that overall tastes sweet. Well done! A little hot on the finish. (2/2013)

Een uurtje open, heel toegankelijk, weinig neus, medium body, evenwichtig, drinkt makkelijk weg, wordt waarschijnlijk nog iets beter, kurk niet meer optimaal en veel te zacht, deze 2011 kan er nog wel enkele jaren tegen maar er is geen reden om dit te laten liggen, daar zijn andere jaargangen voor. 91+
