Nieuwe regulering voor Cava
Net binnen:

The CR CAVA meeting was held yesterday (wednesday). An agreement has been finally reached on the new regulations. I will send you the new DO CAVA regulations and bid conditions as soon as possible.
In short, I would like to inform you that the decision was unanimous and that the goal is to give more value and prestige to the product, differentiating the various elaboration regions and establishing new categories based in the quality.

The following items have been modified:

* Regarding the elaboration regions: Spain will be divided into 4 different regions.

· Comptats de Barcelona ( whole Catalunya)

· Valle del Ebro

· Viñas del Almendralejo

· Altos de Levante.

Within the big four different regions and based on their climate conditions and their geography, DO Cava has also created sub areas in two territories based on their history and orography. On one side Comptats de Barcelona which includes the sub-regions of Valls d'Anoia-Foix, Serra de Mar, Conca de Gaià, Serra de Prades and Pla de Ponent. On the other, Valle del Ebro has been divided into Alto Ebro and Valle del Cierzo. The areas of Viñas de Almendralejo and Altos de Levante have not been sub-divided.

*Regarding the categories, the new regulations establish that products that have been aged for longer than 9 months will be named Cava de Guarda and products which have been aged for longer that 18 months will be named Cava de Guarda Superior. For the first time, the products aged for 9 months will be differentiated from the rest . From now on the cava Reserva will be aged for 18 months instead of 15 , Gran Reserva will be aged for 30 months and Paratge Qualificat Cavas will be aged for 36 months. Additionally to the amount of months they have to age, the Caves de Guarda Superior will also have to comply with special requirements regarding the age of the grapevines, the quantity of the harvest and additionally they will have to be elaborated from ecological grapes.

The concept of "Premium" cavas will be revised. Both the elaboration regions and the new categories are elements which the DO Cava plans to incorporate on the label as from the second half of 2021.
Efforts are being done to welcome back the cava producers CAVA de CORPINAT and CLÀSSIC PENEDÈS to CR CAVA as some of the aforementioned issues where the cause of their membership resignation.

As you already know, this year's harvest might be difficult, we do not expect a great harvest due to mildew in the whole of the cava region affecting mainly to organic producers. We shouldn't worry about our CAVA RESERVA which will be ecological in the future due to the new regulations as we currently have a great production

D.O.P. Bierzo: Regional wines from different villages

Vino de Villa: Wines from a single village

Vino de Paraje: A zone, lieu-dit or named place within a village. There’s no exact equivalent of the paraje concept with the Burgundian classification. A paraje is usually a larger zone; I’ve called them neighborhoods or quarters before to explain the concept, if the countryside could be divided like a town.

Viña Clasificada: A classified vineyard, equivalent of the Burgundian 1er Cru

Gran Viña Clasificada: A great classified vineyard, equivalent of the Burgundian Grand Cru

Ah, thank you voor deze extra info.
Ze hadden dan toch beter de benaming premier en grand cru overgenomen vind ik, zou toch wat duidelijker geweest zijn.
