Mijn laatste flesje Les Pommards '10, Saint Véran: snik. Nog altijd even onder de indruk als bij mijn eerste post over deze wijn. Kent iemand een goeie winkel in onze contreien waar men deze en andere verkoopt?

Burghound:
From vines situated in Davayé, planted in rocky, high limestone content soil which abuts the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyard of Le Pommard on the edge of Vergisson and Solutré. Here the nose is primarily comprised of white orchard fruit aromas though there are background nuances of apricot and acacia blossom. There is excellent richness and volume to the extract-rich medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a dry and citrus-infused finish that delivers simply knockout length for a St. Véran. This is one of the best wines that I have ever seen from this appellation and is highly recommended. (92pp, Outstanding)

Ik proefde deze avond Pouilly-Fuissé En France 2010. Zeer jong beestje met zoete peer, mineralen en kamille in de neus. Mond zeer jong met een ferm bittertje. Karaf dus, maar nog beter om er een jaar of langer af te blijven... .

Burghound (92pp): A highly complex and cool nose of white flowers, lemon zest and mineral reduction gives way to impressively rich and overtly powerful flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration yet the firm acid spine both shapes and imparts a real sense of verve to the long finish. The complexity has really improved since I last saw this from cask and another aspect that I very much like here is the overall refinement as this is a Pouilly-Fuissé of finesse.

Macon Chaintré 2011 Les Pierres Polies

Vandaag is deze wijn veel meer in z'n sas dan gisteren. Salien, droog, strak, fris. Matchte geweldig bij de oesters op het terras.

Tja de Pierres Polies is niet zo mijn ding. Les Pierre Polies was mijn eerste kennismaking met Barraud (gekocht bij Grandry). Ik vond dit nogal mager voor + 10 euro. Waterachtig kleurtje, weinig body. Wat een geluk dat ik toen besliste om toch maar eens een van hun Pouilly-Fuissés te proeven. Het kan verkeren... .

Lees niet zwaar maar elegant.
Lees eerder subtiel dan opdringerig.
Lees mineraliteit en fraicheur ipv toast en kracht.

Héérlijke wijn.

Om nog eens terug te keren op de jaargang 2011 in Bourgogne. Dit is wat Daniel Barraud zegt over 2011 (uitsluitend wit bij Barraud - Bron: Burghound): Daniel Barraud describes 2011 as a "vintage of contrasts. The beginning of the growing season was very precocious and the dryness of June was compensated by July rains that were frequent but without any real storms. August though was quite difficult as we had 4 days of intense heat interspersed with stormy weather and late season heat and high humidity is potentially a very dangerous combination. Even discounting the considerable risk of widespread rot and mildew the rain was responsible for swelling the grapes. Unlike several recent vintages we unfortunately had no north wind to help concentrate the fruit by evaporating the excess water. As such yields were somewhat larger than usual though because of the heat we managed to have correct maturities even with the bigger crop. We began picking earlier than most, which is to say from the 31st of August to the 15th of September. We did so because we felt that it was absolutely necessary to preserve the existing acidity and not allow it to degrade further rather than focusing solely on potential alcohols. And even so we didn't suffer in that regard because sugars were in the 12.5 to 13% range which is plenty for the style of wine that we prefer to make. Despite the humidity we basically had no significant issues with rot and there was actually very little sorting required. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if we could have had just a bit less quantity, and I'm talking only 10 to 20% less juice, 2011 might very well have been the best vintage in many, many years. I say this because we didn't have any more bunches than we did in 2010 but the bunches themselves were notably larger in 2011 with a corresponding greater amount of juice in them. It was clear from the outset that the wines were going to be very rich with just enough acidity to keep them balanced and as such we elected to do very little in the way of lees stirring. I like the vintage because the wines are lovely and very well balanced. I suppose I'm focusing too much on what could have been because I really do think that 2011 could have been brilliant. Still, I will take this kind of quality anytime."

La Verchère (vieilles vignes) 2011, Pouilly-Fuissé, Daniel en Martine Barraud: Excellente Pouilly-Fuissé van wijnstokken van meer dan 70 jaar oud aan de voet van de Roche de Vergisson. Mond: lichte toast die verdwijnt na walsen, citrus (limoen), gestoofde appel, nectarine en zoete peer à gogo, lindebloesem, kamille, potpourri, Lipton thee met citroen, mineralen (natte steen).

Indrukwekkende materie in de mond: rijke en diepe smaken, molligheid, verfrissende zuren, zeer mineraal, zoutig (saline). Licht explosief en stevig einde dat enigszins vergelijkbaar is met een Napoleon snoepje (citrus).
